Open-access policy

CMR provides immediate open access to all published content. Readers may access, read, download, copy, distribute, print, search and link to the full text of articles without registration, subscription or embargo, subject to the licence stated below.

Copyright and licensing

Authors retain copyright in their work. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. The licence permits sharing and adaptation for any purpose, including commercial use, provided appropriate credit is given, a link to the licence is supplied and any changes are indicated.

Authors grant CMR the right of first publication and the non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, display and preserve the version of record. Authors remain free to enter into additional non-exclusive arrangements for distribution of the published version, provided its first publication in CMR is acknowledged.

Third-party material that is not covered by the article's CC BY 4.0 licence must be clearly identified. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce such material.

Author fees

CMR does not charge submission fees, article processing charges (APCs), page charges, colour charges, editorial or language-editing fees, or withdrawal fees. Publication decisions are independent of the journal's funding arrangements.

Peer-review process

CMR uses double-anonymous peer review: reviewers do not know the authors' identities and authors do not know the reviewers' identities.

  1. Editorial screening: The editor checks scope, originality, basic scholarly quality, ethical requirements and compliance with the author guidelines. Submissions that do not meet these requirements may be declined without external review.
  2. External review: Submissions that pass screening are normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers must disclose competing interests and decline an assignment where impartial review is not possible.
  3. Author revision: Authors may be asked to revise their manuscript and provide a point-by-point response.
  4. Decision: The handling editor evaluates the manuscript, reviewer reports and author responses before deciding to accept, request further revision or reject. The editor's decision is based on scholarly merit, methodological soundness, originality, clarity and relevance to the journal.

Where reviewer reports conflict, an additional review may be sought. Editorial-board submissions are handled by an editor who has no conflict of interest, and the author is excluded from the editorial process. Special-issue submissions follow the same peer-review and ethical standards as regular submissions. Guest editors may recommend decisions, but the Editor-in-Chief retains final responsibility.

Publication ethics

CMR follows the principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors, reviewers and editors must act with honesty, confidentiality, fairness and transparency. Detailed responsibilities and procedures are set out in the journal's Publication Ethics Policy.

Repository and self-archiving policy

Authors may deposit the submitted manuscript, accepted manuscript and published version of record in institutional or subject repositories, personal websites and academic networks, without embargo. Deposited copies should cite and link to the version of record and include the applicable CC BY 4.0 licence.

Digital preservation

The journal maintains its content and publication records in its publishing platform. At present, no active third-party long-term preservation service is publicly declared. The publisher is evaluating participation in a recognised preservation network and will update this statement when such participation is active. This disclosure does not affect immediate access to current journal content.

Use of generative artificial intelligence

Authors

Generative-AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work. Authors remain fully accountable for the accuracy, originality, citations, permissions and integrity of all submitted content. Material use of a generative-AI tool in writing, analysis, coding, image creation or data processing must be transparently disclosed in the manuscript, including the tool, version, purpose and extent of use. Routine spelling and grammar assistance need not be disclosed. AI-generated citations must be checked against original sources, and confidential or personal data must not be entered into tools that do not provide adequate safeguards.

Reviewers and editors

Unpublished manuscripts and reviewer reports are confidential. Reviewers and editors must not upload them, in whole or in part, to external generative-AI systems unless the journal has explicitly approved a secure system and confidentiality is protected. AI tools must not replace expert judgement or decision-making.

Special issues

Proposals for special issues are assessed for scholarly relevance, editorial expertise, feasibility and conflicts of interest. Calls for papers must state the scope, guest editors, timetable and submission process. Guest editors must apply the journal's normal peer-review, ethics and conflict-of-interest standards. Submissions by guest editors or members of the special-issue team are handled independently. The Editor-in-Chief retains oversight and final decision authority.

Advertising and direct marketing

CMR does not accept commercial advertising. Any future advertising policy will require editorial independence, clear identification of advertising and separation from editorial decisions. Direct marketing, if undertaken, will be appropriate, targeted and truthful and will not make misleading claims about the journal.

Publisher and business model

CMR is published by the Malaysian Finance Association (Persatuan Kewangan Malaysia), Malaysia. The journal is supported by the publisher and does not rely on author charges or reader subscriptions. Editorial decisions are made independently of financial support.
